Wheels for the World: Cushions needed!

“Wheels For The World”, WWTW https://www.throughtheroof.org/international-mission/wheels-for-the-world/ is part of a Christian Charity dedicated to improving the lives of disabled people around the world by the provision of refurbished wheelchairs to the point of need.

Sue & Jeff Edwards’ (members of the congregation at St. Mary’s) daughter Lucy Hughes a physiotherapist and her friend, Lynne Mosher, an occupational therapist have visited a centre in Uganda and found the experience life-changing. Lynne will be visiting a centre in Kenya in April 2021. She would like to take with her 100 cushions to be used to make the wheelchairs more comfortable and to help with posture and positioning.

Sue has already made 10 cushions from some old curtains but has run out of material!

Volunteers are therefore needed to:

· Supply suitable pieces of material

· Use their needlework skills to make cushions

If you are able to offer either, please contact Thirsk Parishes at thirskparishes@gmail.com so that we can monitor the numbers and provide material for those in need for sewing up.

Cushion Details

Cushions should be either

· small - 10 x 18 inches (25 x 46 cm), or

· large – 25 x 25 inches (64 x64 cm)

A 6 inch (15cm) gap should be left open for filling

Note: the cushions are filled with waste pieces of foam and sewn up in situ by friends of the disabled!
